The Registrar

Prof. O.E. Antia-Obong was born in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State of Nigeria on the 12th of June, 1948.
He had his Primary education at Methodist Central School, Ikot Ekpene (1953 –1961), Secondary education at Methodist Boys’ High School, Oron (1962 – 1966), higher school education at Government Secondary School Owerri (1967) and Hope Waddel Training Institute, Calabar (1968-1969).

Prof. Antia-Obong gained admission into the Medical School, University of Ibadan in 1969 and obtained the Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MB,BS) degree in 1975.In 1977, he started residency training in Paediatrics at the University College Hospital, Ibadan. During the residency, he spent a year (1983-1984) as a research registrar at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children, York hill, Glasgow, Scotland.

He became a Fellow of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria in the Faculty of Paediatrics in 1985.
In December, 1985 he was appointed a Lecturer 1 in the College of Medical Sciences, University of Ibadan and a Consultant Pediatrician to the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, Calabar and rose to the rank of Professor of Paediatrics in 2000.
He was Acting Head, Department of Paediatrics, College of Medical Sciences, University of Calabar and the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (1991-1993).

He is a former Acting Dean, Faculty of Clinical Sciences, College of Medical Science University of Calabar (2000 – 2002) and Deputy Provost, College of Medical Science, University of Calabar, October 2004 – February 2005).
He has been an active member of the Medical and Dental Consultants Association, University of Calabar Teaching Hospital where he served as Financial Secretary and later as Chairman from 2002 – 2004. He was the 2nd National Vice-President of the Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (2003 – 2005).

Prof. Antia-Obong is a teacher with several published works.
He is happily married with children.
He assumed duty as College Registrar on 1st March, 2005.
