The Vice President
Prof. Victor Chukwuma Wakwe was born in Aboh Town Ndokwa East L.G.A. of Delta State on 27th April, 1949. He attended St. Patrick’s College, Calabar from 1962-1966 and College of Science and Technology Port Harcourt for his G.C.E Advanced Level (1974).
Prof. Victor Chukwuma Wakwe was admitted into the College of Medicine University of Lagos where he obtained the Bachelor of Science Degree in Biochemistry B.Sc (Hons) degree in 1977 and the Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MB.BS) degree in 1980. He started his residency training in Pathology (Chemical Pathology) at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) in 1982.
He became a Fellow of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria in the Faculty of Pathology (Chemical Pathologist) in 1988 and a Fellow of West African College of Physicians in 1994. He obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Nutrition and Dietetics in 1986 from Grandhigrram Institute of Rural Health & Faculty Welfare Trust Ambathural India in 1986.He was appointed Lecturer 1 at the department of Chemical Pathology, University of Port -Harcourt in 1988 and Chemical Pathologist Consultant to University of Port- Harcourt Teaching Hospital and rose to the rank of Professor of Chemical Pathology in 2003.
He is a former Acting Head of Department of Anatomic Pathology of University of Port Harcourt (1989-1990). Former Head of Chemical Pathology of University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (1992- 1995) Since January, 2006 he has been the Dean, Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, Niger Delta University Wiber Force Island, Bayelsa State. He is a researcher with several published works.
Prof. V.C. Wakwe is member of many National and International bodies these include: - Nigerian Medical Association - Association of Pathologist of Nigeria - Association of Clinical Chemist of Nigeria - The New York Academy of Sciences
He won scholarships and attended several conferences within and outside the country. He is a former Past Chairman of the Faculty of Pathology of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria. He was the immediate past College Treasurer. On Friday 4th December, 2009 he was elected as the College Vice President for two year term with effect from 1st January, 2010 – 31st December, 2011. Prof. Victor Chukuma Wakwe is happily married with children.
