Medical Education Hybrid Course November 2021

₦75000Aim and objectives:
The aim of the course to critically appraise, develop, evaluate, and apply current best practice of learning and teaching, principles of assessment, curriculum developments and a greater understanding of the principles of Medical Education. This is in recognition of the fact that, with appropriate help, all teachers, including those with considerable experience, can improve their skills in teaching.
The specific objectives are to:
1. Understand the theoretical framework of medical education, their assumptions, principles and beliefs about the nature of human mind, the origin of knowledge, and the process of learning as well as the methods and practice of teaching to develop the basic competencies of teaching and assessment.
2. Critically appraise and apply medical education theories and principles in all learning and teaching opportunities: the individual learner (medical student or medical resident doctors), the learning community (class, seminars, tutorials workshop, clinic settings, hospital ward rounds, minor and major surgical theatres, and field activities or other organized group of learners) by developing important transferable skills key to academic practice.
3. Provide students and resident doctors enough opportunities to achieve expected learning outcomes, by implementing a systematic way of gathering, analyzing and interpreting evidence to determine how well student or resident doctors learning matches expectations and using the collected information to inform improvement in student or resident doctors learning experience through the development of competencies in curriculum development.
4. Critically appraise and apply systematic process of documenting and using empirical data on the knowledge, skill, attitude, and belief to improve resident doctors’ learning and refine residency training programmes by developing competencies in medical education leadership.
