The Faculty of Psychiatry can be said to have started its
existence in October 1974 when its first Board, The
Examining Board in Psychiatry, was appointed,
consisting of the following:

Fellowship of the National Medical College in Psychiatry
was awarded initially by election on the basis of
possession of qualification(s) that were regarded as
equivalent to the Fellowship.
The Past officers of the Faculty have been as follows: |

The College has produced 83 Fellows in Psychiatry to
date.
These have formed the pillars of specialised western
mental health care in the country, working as
specialists in private and public hospitals and
teachers in the various medical schools both in the
country, the West African sub-region, and other places. |
